The Poison Extractor®
Idea & Background
The product consists of a one-hand operated vacuum pump that can be placed on an insect bite in such a way that the poison can be drawn out through the wound.
Sometimes the very sting of the insect breaks off and remains in the wound. Therefore, the handle is constructed in such a way that it is possible to remove this sting by scraping it off with one end of the handle.
When stung on smaller areas (i.e., children's fingers) the mouthpiece can be turned for better use.
The way of reducing the discomfort after insects' bites or stings by means of vacuum has been known from folk medicine from ancient times.
For instance, an effective cure in the case of vipers' bites was to stop the blood circulation and then cut a small hole in the bite with a knife and suck out the poison.
With the Poison Extractor this is so simple that even a child can suck out the poison without difficulties.
When the development of the product began, the objective was to find a method that reduced the discomfort of a bite/sting in most patients to a minimum.
It was a precondition that the sucking out the poison must not involve any side effects, and that it could be carried out without the assistance of trained personnel.

Frequently asked questions
Q: How do I clean the Poison Extractor ?
A: Ordinary clean warm water will do the job. If soap is used, you have to lubricate only the o-ring inside the tube - the o-ring is the black rubber ring on the lever. Normally the poison is not sucked up inside the tube, but will be located on the skin sucked out of the wound.
Q: How long time after a stung can I use the vacuum effect ?
A: The sooner the better. In case of insects it can be used up to two hours after the sting, but the more time the poison is inside the body the more the poison will spread into the body.
Q: Why can it be difficult to use it on hairy body parts ?
A: This is not a problem. If you think so - use water or mouth water (saliva), and hair will lie down and the Poison Extractor can easily be applied.
Q: Can it also suck the stinger out of the wound ?
A: Yes, if the stinger is not fastened deep in the skin. The advice is to remove the stinger with the special designed ends of the lever. Do not use your fingers and squeeze the stinger out - in this way you only push more poison into the body. You just softly scrape with one of the ends of the lever, in such a way that the stinger is being scraped out.
Q: Why do I have to buy the Poison Extractor, when I can buy an ordinary syringe and cut off the bottom ?
A: Because a syringe does not have the necessary suction effect (power). Further, it is not possible to use the syringe without the help from others as you have to use your free hand to fasten the syringe to the skin.
Q: Why is it white ?
A: It is clinical and the color make the product easy to find if lost. Green and yellow colors attract insects and a transparent (clear) item is difficult to find if lost.
Q: Can it be used for other poisons like poison from snakes and scorpions ?
A: The basic idea with the Poison Extractor is that you suck the poison out the way it entered. In all cases where poison is being injected and leave a channel in the skin, the Insect Poison Extractor will have effect.
